Community Research and Consulting

About the Course

Students in Community Research and Consulting (COMD210) investigate methodological approaches to community-based sociological research and implement best practices in a real-world setting through a partnership between Siena College and a locally-based community partner. Students design and conduct a community-based collaborative research with the objective of presenting evidence-based recommendations to the client/community.

Employing Community Based Research (CBR)

  • Students develop a methodologically-sound research design to investigate the chosen topic(s).
  • Students learn and employ qualitative research methods, like case studies and interviews.
  • Students gain experience in quantitative research methods, including survey design and implementation.
  • Students analyze gathered data using statistical software programs like Excel, R, and SPSS.
  • Students compile their findings into a final presentation and written deliverable to present to community stakeholders.
