Students in Community Research and Consulting (COMD210) investigate methodological approaches to community-based sociological research and implement best practices in a real-world setting through a partnership between Siena College and a locally-based community partner. Students design and conduct a community-based collaborative research with the objective of presenting evidence-based recommendations to the client/community.
Employing Community Based Research (CBR)
Students develop a methodologically-sound research design to investigate the chosen topic(s).
Students learn and employ qualitative research methods, like case studies and interviews.
Students gain experience in quantitative research methods, including survey design and implementation.
Students analyze gathered data using statistical software programs like Excel, R, and SPSS.
Students compile their findings into a final presentation and written deliverable to present to community stakeholders.
