Description for Application

The SCRI Academic Integration Faculty Fellow (FF) role is currently conceptualized as a one-year appointment that rotates across the three schools. This appointment is accompanied by a one course reassignment each semester. The first semester will consist of preparation and planning.

The FF will be responsible for teaching a one-semester, interdisciplinary topics, seminar-style course in their second semester focusing on research that will have a positive social impact.  SCRI will provide topics to choose from or the faculty fellow can design the course using their own research topic.  The structure will include units within the course that develop the students’ competence and skill sets which are relevant for future research either as an intern at SCRI or for independent research with SCRI, or with a faculty member. This will help develop a model that includes a student cohort who move through the course and into various research positions at Siena and beyond. To that end, the FF will:

  • Attend SCRI boot camp early in their first semester to become versed in SCRI methods, surveys, and data sets
  • Meet with the steering committee or a representative of the steering committee early in their first semester to brainstorm ideas, and receive course guidance and a sample syllabus
  • Continue to meet with the steering committee or a representative of the steering committee at least twice per semester for support, brainstorming, and team iteration
  • Maintain open communication with the steering committee whenever support is needed, not limited to the two meetings
  • Meet with and observe both the SCRI Internship Program and COMD210 Course
  • Assist in recruiting students to enroll in the course, trying to achieve a balance between the three schools with support from the steering committee
  • Teach a one-semester course in the second semester focusing on research that will have a positive social impact.  This course will have the same structure as the two previous FF courses with the flexibility for the FF to develop new content that allows the FF to introduce students to discipline-specific methodologies that are consistent with or complementary to SCRI methods through lectures and small projects
  • Coordinate and supervise final student research projects
  • Work with CURCA to organize presentations for Academic Showcase
  • Work with ACE to find community partners (as applicable)
  • Present a summary of their experience and offer suggestions for improvement to the steering committee
  • Support SCRI’s robust internship program by recommending promising students
  • Join steering committee upon completion of term as FF
    1. Commit to the steering committee for a minimum of two years
    2. Assist with recruiting faculty and vetting future FF applications
